Copy of my comment on IEEE UTNBA Gamejam.Jam is extended, but I am not able to open Unity again, so I will spend this time to write here what kind of game you r going to taste.
The concept was that main hero is killed by bandits, but after death he is able to revenge. Also, death in game helps to complete level, for example you must die on very first level in order to open path to bush with teleport. Again, death is an opportunity. But because the team is 10-13 yo and its our first jam, the game is like it is)
In the beginning there were 8 kids wishing to participate. We decided not to form couple of teams, but enter in one large but little disorganized squad. I was supposed to be curator, I was going to help coders solve difficult situations, help them provide brainstorm (without proposing my own ideas of course). First day gone very good, we had assets, prototypes of mechanic. But on second day core coders felt bad, and also me, because of atmospheric pressure, and it was wasted. We intended to finish prototype on second day according to my roadmap of minimal goals (which in case of fail will cause us to leave jam), and we talked a lot about is further development worth it. So we voted continue or not and decided to continue with less members.
I went sleep at 7:00 playing Factorio all night with friends. I wish I return there and spend this time to coding (On the other hand trench war with bugs using flameturrets and crude oil deposit near their hive was definately fun). I started coding only today, when realized that only two coders are working and I have to increase their chances to finish. We discovered Unity teams (yes, we stored images and scripts in Trello while one dude was building this garbage pile into one Unity project), and after that our productivity pumped at least 10 times (I've checked archive with completed tasks). This day was full of stress, I got very much fun.
We were sure, that we have at least levelfinish system and character animations. So, I have insisted those two coders to go rest 2 hours before jam's end. They were online for at least 10hours on discord. I realized that UI is not worth it and there are some outrageous issues too late. The last 20mins I spent on making the game at least playable, after very poor level design I ran test play and when level finish did not bring me to next level disappointment and anxiety covered my mind, but the flaming will that we are going to submit the game permitted the project finishing. Wow, now is 1:45 and someone just written in discord smth on spanish about 5more mins. I know I could use this time to improve the game to condition of 2010-s flash shit, but I am not able to open Unity again. In the last 6mins I had to build project and submit it to Itch. The problem was I've never did this neither that. While taking cortisol bath I managed to finish this epic adventure. I haven't known that time is extended. I have the same emotions of hapiness while finishing this comment now. So this is our story.
